Costs

This luxury camping safari to Botswana includes scheduled international flights between London Heathrow and Botswana, via Johannesburg; safari drives in a custom-built vehicle; transfers by road and light aircraft; accommodation in luxury mobile camps; camping equipment; private campsite fees; park entrance fees; the services of a knowledgeable guide and professional camp team and usually three meals a day.

Luggage

The Botswana Wilderness & Walking Safari includes two light aircraft transfers. The maximum luggage limit on these flights, and therefore the safari, is 20kg per person including reasonable camera equipment. All luggage must be packed in soft squashable bags - no hard suitcases or bags with wheels can be transported as they physically cannot fit into the aircraft. The maximum dimensions of the soft bags which can be accommodated are as follows: 25cm wide x 30cm high and 62cm long. Please keep in mind that the baggage compartments on the light aircraft are only 25cm high, so the pilots must have the ability to manipulate the bag into the compartment.

This is seldom a problem as light, casual clothing is all that is needed along with at least one warm jumper or fleece. Warmer clothing is recommended during the winter months (June to August). Speak to us if the luggage restrictions are concerning you because for an additional cost we may be able to book an extra 'seat' to allow for extra luggage allowance.

Please also note that the light aircraft companies assume a maximum weight of 98kg for men and 80kg for women when calculating permissible loads and scheduling their flights accordingly. If you or any member of your party exceeds these limits, please let us know so that we can advise the aircraft companies. In these instances it may be necessary to book of additional seats (at extra cost) for safety reasons.

Laundry

A basic laundry service is included whilst on safari when spending more than one night in any given luxury mobile camp.

Clothing

Whilst on a walking safari in Botswana it is important that you wear neutral colours such as green, khaki, dull blues or dust-brown. Bright colours, black and white stand out in the African bush and will only serve to scare wildlife away. Anything other than neutral colours are also strongly discouraged for safety reasons.

When on a walking safari, lightweight walking boots (with ankle support if possible) are recommended. This is mainly because the bush is not always smooth and even, and anything that minimises the chance of a twisted ankle is worthwhile. Never bring a new pair, or boots that aren't completely worn in.

A hat is an essential item when walking in the African bush as it minimises sunburn and helps against dehydration.

Drinks

During your safari in Botswana drinks such as mineral water, soft drinks, gin, vodka, beer and wine are included. If you have a preferred tipple that is not included in this list we can take requests and usually ensure that there is plenty made available to last the trip.

Torches

The luxury mobile camps on the Botswana Wilderness & Walking Safari will be lit by paraffin or oil lamps each evening. A rechargeable lantern and a wind-up torch will also be supplied in each tent.

Special requests

If you have any dietary requirements, special requests medical conditions that you would like us to be aware of we ask that you tell us well in advance. A good way to do this is to note these in the 'Special Requests' box made available on the booking form.

Whilst we cannot always guarantee a special request the safari operators and camps will always try hard to help.
