A comfortable mobile camping safari with a private guide is a great way to experience the Okavango Delta and we recommend a three-night stay here as part of your Botswana safari.

Guide

The Botswana Wildlife Extension is led by an expert guide, who was born and bred in Botswana, hast vast knowledge of the area, speaks the local language fluently and has been guiding for at least 20 years. Because of his amiable and caring nature, he's a particularly good guide for families.

Santantadibe Mobile Camp

As Santantadibe is a private community reserve, it is possible to drive off road to reach less accessible wildlife, explore slowly on a guided walk (animal movements permitting for safety reasons) or search for nocturnal animals on a night drive - activities which are not allowed within Botswana's national parks.

Whilst in Santantadibe on your camping safari, you'll stay in spacious walk-in 3 x 3 metre dome tents, with comfortable stretcher-beds, bedrolls, bed linen and duvets. Each tent will also be furnished with a small side table and reading lamp. Private canvas hand basins are set up outside each tent and refilled with clean water regularly.

There is a separate enclosure with a bucket shower that is filled with water at your chosen temperature when needed, and a second enclosure with a short-drop covered with a proper toilet seat.

A large marquee tent with sides that can be rolled up provides shade and sheltered dining in the unlikely event of rain. Two camp assistants take on all the camp chores, allowing you the undivided attention of the guide as you explore the area. The camp chef prepares tasty, fresh, three-course meals over the fire; dinners are served at a candle-lit table set with linen, crockery and glasses, with a choice of red or white wines.

Family facilities

A larger tent can be made available for families with young children on this camping safari to Botswana. This tent has two sleeping compartments with a simple en-suite toilet.

Car seats in the safari vehicle can be arranged for young children. Your guide can also arrange for one of the camp assistants to act as 'nanny' on occasions such as adult meal times. There is no extra cost for this service but we recommend you give your thanks by way of a tip. Please note that s/he will not be a qualified child minder so parents must remain close by during these occasions.

Activities

Safari activity timings are all flexible depending on the interests and priorities of your group. If something exciting crops up you can stay with it for as long as you need. Activities might include walking safaris (wildlife movements permitting for safety reasons), fishing and bird watching trips, canoeing excursions (depending on water levels), and 4WD safaris including spot-lit night drives.

Vehicles

The vehicles used on these safaris are custom-made open-sided 4WD's created for optimal game viewing. Each is spacious and comfortable with space for up to maximum of 6 or 10 passengers.

Camp team

The camping safari team is made up of a chef and camp assistants who are there to set up and break down camp and to carry out daily camp chores, helping to make your safari as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
