Begin this 9-day luxury camping safari to Botswana by exploring the often underrated but fascinating Nxai Pan National Park in the Kalahari. During the country's rainy season (Nov-Apr), nutritious grasses and desert flowers break through sandy, dry soils attracting small migrations of plains game - notably zebra. This is when Nxai Pan comes alive with herds of grazing animals followed closely by their predators such as cheetah and black-maned lions. Combine this incredible wildlife spectacle with time exploring the productive Khwai reserve, game driving along the outer reaches of the Okavango Delta's lily-filled waterways and through riverine woodland beside the Khwai River.
Tents
Whilst on this luxury camping safari to Botswana you will stay in very spacious, insect-proof Meru-style tents which measure 6 x 6 metres and are furnished with twin beds. In every tent you will also find a battery-operated lamp, wind-up torch, insect repellent, hanging canvas shelves for clothing storage, floor rugs, towels and complimentary toiletries, including soap and shampoos.
Each tent has a covered en suite bathroom with a bucket shower, basin and jug of water, mirror and a flush toilet.
Each tent also has a private veranda with two comfortable canvas safari chairs for you to relax in during the heat of the day. Canvas wash basins have been set up outside the tents which are filled with hot water first thing in the morning and when you return from dusty game drives.
Luxury mobile camp and camp team
The experienced camp staff will be available throughout your stay at each camp to attend to any of your requirements and to ensure your comfort at all times. You will not be expected to participate in any camp chores, allowing for complete relaxation.
A dining tent will be set up at the centre of the mobile camp where meals are served during the heat of the day or in inclement weather. Because there is usually excellent weather and wonderful skies, dinner is often served in the open beneath the stars. The safari chef prepares all meals with fresh ingredients and bakes fresh bread daily. Delicious three-course dinners are served in at a beautifully laid table and usually accompanied by fine South African wines. After dinner guests often move to sit in comfortable canvas safari chairs surrounding the camp fire.
Vehicles
This safari to Botswana utilises open 4WD Toyota Land Cruisers with 9 individual padded bucket seats. For your safety and comfort, these have been custom-built by specialists in safari vehicle modifications. Each vehicle is covered by a canvas canopy and takes a maximum of eight. Snacks and ice-cold drinks are kept in a cool box and are available on all drives.
Charging batteries
Each safari vehicle is fitted with an inverter and plugs allowing passengers the opportunity to charge batteries whilst on safari using the standard two-pin charger that is usually supplied when you buy electrical equipment. If you do not have a two-pin charger, we recommend you purchase and adaptor. Botswana uses plugs with 3 large round pins - the same plug that is used in South Africa. It is relatively easy to find an adaptor for use in South Africa which would also work in Botswana.
The plugs on the vehicles are only to be used to recharge necessary items such as camera batteries; they are not to be used for charging electric toothbrushes or mobile phones.
Whilst on the Khwai & Nxai Pan Botswana Safari, it will be possible to charge batteries during your stay at Khwai Tented Camp (Days 5 to 7). Batteries can only be charged whilst the camp's generator is running which is only whilst guests are out on activities. We recommend that you always travel with a spare battery for use whilst the other is charging.
