Language

The Okavango & Central Kalahari Safari is conducted in English.

Costs

This safari to Botswana includes scheduled, overnight international flights from the UK to Botswana, via Johannesburg; transport in a custom-built safari vehicle or a light aircraft; accommodation in comfortable safari camps; national park fees and usually three meals a day as specified in the itinerary.

Drinks

Whilst on safari in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and the Okavango Delta a complimentary bar offering a good variety of drinks is included. Bottled mineral water will also be available to you and included in the price. The exception to this is Day 2 in Maun where drinks are not included in the price. You will be able to purchase refreshments here with the account to be settled by you before you depart the lodge.

Luggage

The Okavango & Central Kalahari Safari includes two light aircraft transfers between safari camps. The maximum luggage limit on these flights, and therefore the Botswana safari, is 20kg per person including reasonable camera. Luggage must be packed in soft squashable bags - no hard suitcases or bags with wheels can be transported as they physically cannot fit into the aircraft.

The maximum dimensions of the soft bags should be: 25cm wide x 30cm high and 62cm long. These size restrictions are created by the opening to the aircrafts baggage compartments only being about 30cm high. Larger bags will physically not fit on board the smaller light aircraft. As casual light clothing is all you will need whilst on safari the luggage limit should not be a problem. We recommend you bring at least one warm jumper or fleece throughout the year.

Passengers weighing 100kg or more, or two guests travelling together whose combined weight is 200kg, must advise us in advance. For safety reasons, the weight limit on the light aircraft needs to be regulated and we require forewarning if we need to alter planned weight distributions.

Laundry

A full complimentary laundry service will be offered whilst you are at Xigera Camp in the Okavango Delta. No laundry service is offered during your time in the Central Kalahari.

Torches

We recommend that you take a torch with you on safari to light the way when walking from the main area to your tent after dark. Head torches are useful as they leave your hands free.

Tipping

Tipping is not compulsory. If, however, you want to tip because you have received good service, we recommend a discretionary US Dollars $10 per day for your safari guide, US Dollars $5 per day for mokoro polers and US Dollars $5 per day whilst at the safari camps. The latter should be placed in the communal tipping box to be distributed equally amongst all the staff.

Passport and Visa requirements

It is our current understanding that travellers on British, American, Canadian, New Zealand and Australian passports do not need visas for South Africa or Botswana. That said, it remains your responsibility to double check these details with the nearest relevant embassy to you.

It is a requirement that you check that your passport will have at least six months left to run when you travel, we recommend a validity of nine months to prevent any problems. You should also ensure that you will have at least 3 clean pages for each time that you pass through customs (these must be visa pages, not pages for amendments and endorsements which are usually at the back of a passport). Most countries require this, and we have had recent reports of South Africa actively enforcing this restriction - and refusing entry to those who don't comply. (If you will be passing through customs in more than one country, you need to make sure that you have sufficient blank pages for entry and exit stamps at each destination.)
