Language

The Okavango & Desert Adventure is conducted in English.

Costs

This comfortable camping safari adventure to Botswana includes scheduled, overnight international flights to Livingstone in Zambia, via Johannesburg; transport in a custom-built safari vehicle or a light aircraft; accommodation in a lodge in Zambia, comfortable mobile safari camps in Botswana's northern reserves, thatched chalet at Deception Valley Lodge and lovely tented rooms at the Kalahari Plains Camp whilst in the desert; national park fees and usually three meals a day as specified in the itinerary.

Drinks

Whilst on safari in Botswana, a complimentary bar offering a good variety of drinks is included. Bottled mineral water is always available to you throughout the camping adventure. Whilst in Zambia on Day 2 of the adventure, and Deception Valley Lodge on Day 11, drinks will be for your own account. These can be paid for in US Dollars and we recommend you travel with small denominations as the lodges may not have a lot of change available.

Luggage

The Okavango & Desert Adventure includes light aircraft transfers between safari camps. The maximum luggage limit on these flights, and therefore the camping safari, is 20kg per person including reasonable camera. All luggage must be packed in soft squashable bags - no hard suitcases or bags with wheels can be accepted as they physically cannot fit into the aircraft.

The maximum dimensions of the soft bags which can be accommodated are as follows: 25cm wide x 30cm high and 62cm long. Please keep in mind that the baggage compartments on the light aircraft are only about 30cm high, so the pilots must have the ability to manipulate the bag into the compartment.

This is seldom a problem as light, casual clothing is all that is needed along with at least one warm jumper or fleece. Warmer clothing is recommended during the winter months (June to August). Speak to us if the luggage restrictions are concerning you because for an additional cost we may be able to book an extra 'seat' to allow for extra luggage allowance.

Passengers weighing 100kg or more, or two guests travelling together whose combined weight is 200kg, must please advise us in advance as an extra seat for the additional weight will have to be costed in to the package for safety purposes.

Laundry

A limited laundry service is offered during full days in camp - not on a moving day. Clothes will be hand washed only and the service will depend on the availability of water and on the weather. If you would like items laundered please mention this to your guide or one of the camp team. For cultural reasons we ask you not to include smalls in your laundry. Water and washing powder can be made available to you should you wish to wash these yourself.

Tipping

Tipping is not compulsory. If, however, you want to tip because you have received good service, we recommend a discretionary US Dollars $10 per day for your safari guide, US Dollars $5 per day for mokoro polers and US Dollars $5 per day for the adventure safari camp team. The latter should be placed in the communal tipping box to be distributed equally amongst all the staff.

Visa and passport requirements

The most current information given to us is that travellers on American, British, New Zealand and Australian passports do not require visas to travel through South Africa or Botswana. You will require a visa for Zambia. Visa fees for entering Zambia are currently US Dollars $50 per person for a single entry and US Dollars $80 for a multiple entry. The visa fee can be paid in US Dollars cash on arrival at Zambian immigration or arranged in advance at your nearest embassy or high commission.

The above notes are simply guidelines and should be taken as such. It remains your responsibility to double check these details with the nearest relevant embassy to you. You should also ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months from the date your journey ends. You will also need to ensure that you have at least 3 clear pages in your passport suitable for immigration stamps each time that you pass through a border point. You may be refused entry into a country if you do not adhere to these requirements.
