This Kingfisher Safari allows you to explore the ever changing areas of the Okavango Delta and
Chobe National Park, where game is constantly on the move and the water levels and channels vary with
the seasons. Your knowledgeable safari guide will escort you through this unique ecosystem: watch stately
herds of elephant come to drink at the Linyanti River, watch herons fish the newly flowing Selinda Spillway,
and enjoy a trip by mokoro (dug-out canoe) along the tranquil channels and across lily covered pools in
Moremi Game Reserve. A tour of the Victoria Falls is the best introduction to this spectacular
safari to Botswana and Zambia.

DETAILED ITINERARY:
Day 1 – Flight to Zambia
Scheduled overnight flight from London, via Johannesburg, to Livingstone in Zambia.
Day 2 – Victoria Falls, Zambia
On arrival at Livingstone Airport you are met and embark straight onto a tour of the spectacular Victoria Falls.
At 1,708 metres wide in full flood, the Victoria Falls is the largest curtain of water in the world, and one of
its seven natural wonders.
After you’ve had your fill of the falls you drive west, following the Zambezi River, for about an hour before
reaching your lodge, situated 140km upstream from Livingstone. Your accommodation for your first night on holiday
in Zambia is an en-suite, thatched chalet each with a private teak deck overlooking the river. Relax to the
sounds of birds, frogs, monkeys and hippo whilst enjoying spectacular views of the river - aptly named ‘God’s
Highway’ by David Livingstone.
Day 3 – Chobe River & Linyanti Reserve
After breakfast you leave Zambia to enter Botswana at Kazungula: the point where Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and
Zimbabwe meet.
Along the riverfront area of Chobe National Park the game-viewing is often better from the river than from a
vehicle, as the game comes down to the water to drink during the heat of the day. Therefore we settle you aboard
a shaded boat for a stunning trip along Chobe River – watching the area's vast herds of elephant and buffalo come
to drink, as well as a host of antelope. Sable are often found here, you’ll have your first opportunity to see
puku, and there are good chances of spotting the shy Chobe bushbuck.
From the boat station you will drive a short distance to Kasane Airport to board a light aircraft for your
transfer to the Linyanti Reserve and your private mobile safari camp.
|
 |
Day 4 & 5 – Linyanti Reserve
During this part of your safari to Botswana you explore each corner of the private Linyanti Reserve, searching
for wildlife around its mopane woodlands, lush riverine forest and open floodplains. This incredibly diverse
region plays host to an array of animals who slake their thirst in waters of the Linyanti River, most notably to
nursery herds of female elephants and their young during the dry season (August to October).
You might spend one whole day away from camp, beginning with a morning drive before enjoying a picnic lunch with
sweeping views of the Linyanti waterways then, after a siesta in a hammock, you can (as long as no hippo pods
are active nearby) usually spend the afternoon canoeing on the river before returning to camp at dusk. On another
day you can make shorter sorties to track a leopard’s footprints or follow the dawn call of a lion.
|
Day 6, 7 & 8 – Selinda Reserve
From Linyanti it is a day game drive to your camp at Lechwe Island – broken by a picnic lunch at a shady spot en
route. This is a long but interesting drive, covering a variety of habitats. Begin by travelling down the eastern
edge of the Linyanti swamps, circumnavigating the Zibadianja Lagoon and travelling through what is sometimes
known as the ‘stolen river’, the dry Savuti channel, an open grassland favoured by cheetah and bat-eared foxes.
Drive through dense mopane woodland where secretive steenbok hide and wild dog rest during the heat of the day.
Arrive at Lechwe Island Camp during the mid to late afternoon depending upon what you see along the way.
Your Adventurer camp stands in the south-western corner of Botswana’s private Selinda Reserve. It’s set on a
wooded island, overlooking a seasonal floodplain at around the point where the Okavango Delta joins the
Selinda Spillway – an ancient watercourse that links the Okavango and Linyanti river systems, and follows a
fault-line directly related to those of the Great Rift Valley.
You spend your time here exploring the wooded islands, open plains and the flooded and dry channels
surrounding the camp. Being in a private reserve allows you to make the most of this fantastic wildlife
viewing area, and you can enjoy game drives, night drives, canoe trips (seasonal) and nature walks – the
latter three activities are not permitted in Botswana’s national parks.
Day 9 & 10 – Moremi, Okavango Delta
Fly by light aircraft from Lechwe Island Camp to Moremi Game Reserve. Seeing the Okavango Delta from the air
is a real experience, allowing you a fascinating view of the Delta as a whole, and insights into how its
magical landscapes were formed.
Your destination is Xigera (pronounced ‘keejera’): a private area within Moremi Game Reserve. This is a
permanently flooded area where you’ll find a profusion of plant and animal life, all within a paradise of
remote islands ringed by clear-water channels. Due to your Adventurer Camp’s remote location, where equipment
can only be brought in by boat, your tents here are lighter with a gauze main frame giving the illusion that
you are sleeping under the stars!
|
Although there is game around, including red lechwe, sitatunga and elephant, this isn’t your focus. You come
to Xigera to experience one of the Okavango Delta’s lushest and most tropical areas, and to seek the
particularly spectacular birdlife. Expect endless herons, egrets, cranes and smaller water-birds – and
usually sightings of rarities like the Pel’s fishing owls.
Spend your time here travelling by mokoro (dug-out canoe), walking and camping on a small vegetated island.
Walking activities vary in length depending on the water levels and will be much shorter from June to August
when the Okavango Delta is at peak flood and more islands become flooded.
|
 |
Day 11 – Flight to London
From Xigera you transfer by light aircraft to Maun. It’s the end of your Botswana holiday and you bid
farewell your safari guide and the rest of your group before taking your scheduled flight to the UK.
Day 12 - Arrive in London
