Guide

Your guide for this football safari is not only enthusiastic and very knowledgeable, but he is also well known in Namibia as the former captain of the Namibian football team, nicknamed the Brave Warriors. Orlando Haraseb captained forty-nine matches for Namibia which makes him the longest standing captain for the national team to date. It also makes him very popular in a country that is football mad. Taking a safari with him as your guide will open a door to Namibia's local people and cultures not always on offer to visitors. You now have the opportunity to meet Africans at a grassroots level during what is shaping up to be a very special time in the continents history - the Football World Cup.

Orlando is a Damara, one of Namibia's many tribes. He has an easy going nature and extensive knowledge about the country, its flora and its fauna. He began his guiding career over 5 years ago whilst working at Hobatere Lodge. He learnt the trade under the mentorship of Steve Braine, one of Namibia's top naturalists. Orlando continues to build on his wide knowledge, and has a special passion for birds. He often lectures courses attended by upcoming guides, always keen to give something back to his country and the people where he can.

Orlando Haraseb Sports Academy

Over the years Namibia has produced many sports heroes who rose to become world champions. Sport is regarded by many as a contributor to the prevention of crime, a provider of education and a job creator. Through sport, Orlando Haraseb (former captain of the Namibia football team) aims to give back to his country the opportunities and successes the game provided him.

With help of sponsors, Orlando has begun a sports academy in Namibia's rural area of Damaraland. His vision is to create a leading sports academy which provides unique, quality and professional guidance to members of the country's local communities.

During time spent on the Namibia Football & Highlights Safari, guests will visit this new academy and see first-hand how sport can play a big role in bettering the prospects of a country's communities.
