Usual group size: min 4 / max 14 passengers

Departures on this scheduled camping safari are guaranteed with a minimum of 2 passengers between 1 July and 31 October. This increases to a minimum of 4 passengers between 1 November and 30 June. Single travellers, or parties of less than 4 people wanting to travel during the latter period, should speak to us to find out if the minimum number has been met for the safari departure they are interested in.

Age of travellers: min 12 / max 100 years old

Alternative ending

Instead of ending the Three Country African Adventure in Zambia with a flight out from Livingstone Airport, it is possible to drive back to Windhoek, Namibia, on a two-day transfer with your guide. The road transfer would include one night camping in Rundu before arriving in Windhoek the following evening (we can book your Windhoek accommodation as required). To continue on safari in Namibia you could join another of our scheduled group adventures departing from Windhoek or hire a vehicle and set out on a self-drive safari which we can also help you arrange. Speak to us for further information on these options.

Single travellers

There is no single supplement on the Three Country African Adventure.

This interactive camping safari is an ideal way for single travellers to share safari experiences with like-minded adventurers. The lack of a single supplement makes it very good value. As a single traveller, you may be asked to share a tent with someone of the same gender. However, if you would prefer a tent of your own just ask us to request this for you. We cannot guarantee a single tent for you as this depends on space and availability, but we have always been able to accommodate this request in the past.

Language

This Three Country African Adventure is always guided in English.

Costs

This camping safari to Namibia, Botswana and Zambia includes scheduled international flights from the UK, via Johannesburg, to Windhoek in Namibia and from Livingstone in Zambia, via Johannesburg, back to the UK; transport in a safari vehicle and the services of a guide and camp assistant; airport transfers as noted; accommodation and camping as described; full camping equipment; campsite fees; entrance fees to all national parks in Namibia and Botswana; and usually three meals a day.

Meals

The Three Country African Adventure includes almost all necessary meals. Breakfast is a continental buffet, lunch generally a picnic and wholesome dinners are cooked over the campfire. The only meals that aren't included on this camping safari are lunch and dinner in Windhoek on Day 2, and whilst in Livingstone dinner on Day 9 and 10, and lunches on Day 10 and 11.

Drinks

Whilst you're in camp, tea, coffee and hot chocolate are included, as is normal drinking water from the tap. Any other beverages are to be bought at your own expense. Your guide will let you know where to stock up on soft drinks, wines, beers and bottled mineral water. The safari vehicle has a cool box and/or fridge in which you can store drinks.

Age of travellers

Children aged 12 and over are welcome to join this camping safari to Namibia, Botswana and Zambia. A private safari can be tailor-made and quoted for on request for families travelling with younger children.

Laundry

A laundry service is not included in this Three Country African Adventure. It is often possible to arrange a laundry service at campsites where you spend two nights; you can ask your guide to check with campsite staff regarding this. You can also hand wash your clothing using the campsite ablution facilities or ask your camp assistant for a bucket.

Luggage

Travellers are asked to restrict their luggage to one soft holdall type bag weighing up to 15kg that can easily be manipulated into the luggage hold, one medium sized day bag and a camera bag.

Tipping

It is standard to tip for service in Southern Africa, including Namibia, Botswana and Zambia, however this is discretionary depending on quality of service received. If you would like to give your safari guide and camp assistant a gratuity please present these to them separately. A rough guideline would be about GBP 5 / US 8 per guest per day for your safari guide and about GBP 2 / US 3 per guest per day for your camp assistant. For restaurant service a tip of about 10% of the bill is usual.

Visa & passport requirements

It is our current understanding that travellers on British, Canadian, American, Australian and New Zealand passports do not need to apply for a visa in advance to visit South Africa, Namibia, Botswana or Zambia. However, rules and laws in Africa can change without notice and so it remains your responsibility to research latest visa requirements and double check you fulfil these before you travel. For the above nationalities, a tourist visa is currently issued automatically on arrival into South Africa, Namibia and Botswana at no charge (to verify you are a tourist you may be asked to show proof of your itinerary and departure arrangements). For Zambia, you are required to purchase your entry visa on arrival - this currently costs US$50 for single entry and must be paid in US$ cash for which you will need the correct amount as change is generally not available. If you require a double entry visa for Zambia this costs US$80. Please note that multiple entry visas for Zambia (to enter 3 or more times) can only be arranged in advance through your nearest embassy. You can also arrange single and double entry visas in advance should you prefer, but these can easily be bought at the border post on arrival.

To be granted entry into any of these countries, it is essential that your passport does not expire for at least six months after conclusion of your time in Africa (we recommend a validity of at least 9 months afterwards to be on the safe side). In addition, each time you pass through immigration into any of these countries you must have a minimum of three blank pages available for immigration stamps. Failure to meet these requirements may result in entry being refused.

Health requirements

As this itinerary includes time in Zambia, any travellers passing through South Africa before or after this safari are required to be vaccinated against Yellow Fever before they travel (if you are travelling via South Africa to Windhoek/Livingstone you must ensure you are vaccinated at least 10 days before you reach South Africa, even as transit passengers). Upon arriving into South Africa you will be required to show proof of vaccination by way of an official Yellow Fever Certificate. Please consult your GP or nearest Travel Clinic to take the necessary measures. Those unable to receive the vaccination for medical reasons must travel in possession of a valid waiver certificate issued by their GP or Travel Clinic. Please note that this requirement is applicable for any traveller (transit or stay over) to South Africa who is also visiting Zambia.
