Day 1 - Flight to Tanzania and overnight in Arusha
Depart in the evening from London Heathrow for your overnight Kenya Airways flight to Kilimanjaro, via Nairobi.
Includes meals on the flight.
Day 2 - Arusha
Land at Tanzania's Kilimanjaro Airport in the early morning when you will be met and transferred to Karama Lodge for the night - a lovely lodge on the outskirts of Arusha. There is a swimming pool here where you can relax after the long flight, or if you are feeling energetic you could arrange for a taxi to take you into town to explore.
Breakfast is included on the flight and dinner is included at the lodge. Lunch is an additional cost.
Days 3 - Lake Manyara
In the morning you will be collected by your safari guide and taken by road to Lake Manyara. This is an easy drive through rural Tanzania along good tarmac roads. In the late morning and before entering the park, you will have the chance to do a guided walk or bike ride and have lunch in a local village. Then in the afternoon your wildlife safari starts in Lake Manyara National Park. At the gate, open the pop-top roof of your vehicle for unobstructed game viewing and start your first safari drive.
Heading through the park - with the Rift Valley Escarpment soaring up to your right and Lake Manyara spreading out on your left - look out for elephant, giraffe, zebra and other wildlife to be found here. After a full afternoon's game drive leave the park and climb up onto the Rift Valley Escarpment. Stop at a view point for stupendous views back across Lake Manyara National Park and beyond. Then continue on into the Crater highlands, where you overnight at the charming Rhotia Valley Lodge.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 4 - Ngorongoro Crater
Depart early for the short journey up through the Crater forests and onto its rim where the surrounding views are stunning. Continue down onto the Ngorongoro Crater floor for a game drive. This is a spectacular sight scenically and home to over 30,000 animals! The wildlife viewing here is phenomenal and the animals are very relaxed. Get close to big game for some stunning photographs, all with the 600m Crater wall as a backdrop.
At around 14.00 leave the Ngorongoro Crater and drive down to the border of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Serengeti National Park. In the early evening, arrive at Ndutu Lodge where you will spend the night. This is a charming and relaxed lodge which has comfortable rooms, en-suite bathrooms and tasty food. There are no superfluous luxuries here, but the lodge has a really welcoming atmosphere and is a great place to spend a night.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 5, 6 & 7 - Walking in the Serengeti
Depart from Ndutu Lodge in the morning and enjoy a game drive in Serengeti National Park. This safari drive will take you out to the wilderness walking area and your campsite - where there are no roads at all. The guide will follow GPS coordinates to reach the camp which is so far off the beaten track that you are guaranteed not to see anyone else once you are here.
Spend the next few days on a walking safari adventure with a highly trained and experienced guide. The guide will set the pace of each walk according to the group - though you won't usually cover more than 10km a day. These walks are not meant to be strenuous. Rather they are about absorbing what is going on around you, learning about nature on a more intimate level than you can do by vehicle. This is possibly the Serengeti at its best - the famous park in a remote area, away from any other people.
In the evenings return to your private lightweight camp, where you will sleep in dome tents on comfortable foam mattresses. Spend the evenings around the campfire with your group, dining under the African stars and discussing the day's walking adventure.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 8 - Game drive in the Serengeti National Park
Pack down your camp and depart on a game drive into the central Serengeti. This area of Tanzania has phenomenal wildlife viewing and the game here is so relaxed that it will even use vehicles for shade! Spend a full afternoon exploring the area, looking out for the abundant predators that make this area so famous. The early evening is prime time to see them being active, moving between areas and possibly even hunting.
In the evening arrive at Kati Kati Camp - where a bit more luxury and comfort helps to wash away the dust of the walking.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 9 - Flight back to London
There is time for an early-morning safari drive before you depart on a scheduled flight from the Serengeti back to Kilimanjaro. Take the afternoon to freshen up in your day room at the nearby Kia Lodge, before returning to Kilimanjaro and departing on your Kenya Airways flight to Nairobi and on to London.
Breakfast and lunch are included.
