Usual group size: min 2 / max 8 passengers
The group size can vary between a minimum of two people and a maximum of eight. There are only four people to each spacious Land Rover so as to guarantee a window seat for every traveller. If your safari group numbers more than four, you might travel in a small convoy of two vehicles and guides. At certain points during the day and in the evening you will all come together as one large group.
Age of travellers: min 16 / max 75 years old
This safari adventure to Tanzania includes four days of walking in the Serengeti and hence no one under the age of 16 years is permitted to join these trips. Though the walking is usually around 10kms a day and hence not strenuous, people do need to be relatively fit and mobile and hence this trip is not suited to those over the age of 75 years.
Luggage
There is a luggage limit of 15kg and we recommend using soft squashable bags as these are easier for packing the vehicles. We recommend taking comfortable, casual clothing in neutral safari colours. It is also advisable to take some warm clothes for cool mornings around the Ngorongoro Crater.
Costs
This safari adventure around northern Tanzania includes scheduled international flights with Kenya Airways via Nairobi; transport in a 4WD safari vehicle; accommodation; current park entrance fees; a knowledgeable driver-guide and usually three meals a day.
Drinks
Whilst camping at the private campsites, soft drinks, local beers and wine are included. At the lodges drinking water and tea and coffee are included; all other drinks are an additional cost.
Torches
There are solar lamps in all of the private camps and electricity in the safari lodges. However we would recommend taking a torch in addition to this for walking between the main area and your room/tent. We find head torches especially useful when you are camping and might need a free pair of hands for getting in and out of your tent.
Laundry
In the special private camps, water is limited and so laundry is not encouraged. When in any of the lodges, however, you can take advantage of the laundry service. Laundry is an additional cost.
Special requests
If you have any dietary requirements, special requests, or medical conditions that you would like us to be aware of we ask that you tell us well in advance. A good way to do this is to note these in the 'Special Requests' box made available on the booking form.
Whist we cannot guarantee a special request, the camp team will always try hard to help. Please note that you will depart from Arusha with many of the supplies for the rest of your trip, so it is vital that we are aware of any dietary requirements in advance.
Charging batteries
Batteries can be charged via the charging points in the vehicles, in the camps and also at Rothia Valley Lodge and Ndutu Lodge, which both have electricity and charging points in the rooms. In all cases the sockets are UK-style plugs with three square pins.
Visa and passport requirements
The most recent information we have is that all travellers on British, American, Australian and New Zealand passports require visas to travel to Tanzania. Visa fees for entering Tanzania are currently US$50 per person for a single entry. The visa fee can be paid in US dollars cash on arrival at Tanzanian immigration or arranged in advance at your nearest embassy or high commission.
The above notes are simply guidelines and should be taken as such. It remains your responsibility to double check these details with the relevant embassy nearest to you.
Wherever in Africa you travel, your passport should be valid for at least six months from your travel date. You should also ensure that you will have at least three clear pages for each time that you pass through a country's customs and immigration. Please ensure that these are visa pages and not the pages for amendments and endorsements, which are usually found towards the back of a passport.
Health
Typhoid, tetanus and polio vaccinations are advisable. Malaria is widespread, so start a course of anti-malaria tablets before you go. Any visitor who is coming from a country where yellow fever exists must present a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate on arrival, or face vaccination at a cost. Please contact your GP or nearest travel clinic for more information.
