Kafue National Park is the largest national park in Zambia, covering an area of nearly 22,400 km², approximately the size of Wales. With three rivers - the Kafue, the Lunga and the Lufupa - cutting a swathe through this wildlife park, the variety of habitats is rich. Seek antelope in mopane woodland, spot leopard in riverine forests, find elephants in miombo woodland, look for lion prices amongst enormous granite boulders and see hippo in savannah wetlands.
In the north of Kafue National Park lies the Busanga Plains, a vast and seasonal wetland fed by the Lufupa River. During dry season, lion and cheetah stalk these plains, feeding on the vast herds of zebra, puku and red lechwe which live there. It is one of the only areas to see cheetah whilst on Zambia safaris. The Busanga Plains are vast and flat, receding into the horizon, and are dry for six months of the year when they offer memorable wildlife viewing.
Few visitors to the immense Kafue National Park mean an almost exclusive wilderness experience. Spend time here staying in lodges and comfortable tented camps on one our safaris led by a professional and very knowledgeable guide.
