Our Christmas & New Year Adventures
Want to take a break from cold weather and short days in the northern hemisphere? Consider a safari adventure to Namibia or Botswana.
The first rains after the dry season usually falls in November, giving the parched landscape a flush of green as new grass shoots appear. Rains often cease, or fall only occasionally in December, so this is a great time to visit before the rainy season of January to March begins in earnest.
Expect hot weather; colour contrasts as green grasses spread across desert sands; bounding baby antelope and zebra, born after the first rains; fascinating reptiles that appear from under previously parched crevices; and colourful birds as migrants return south for the summer and assume their breeding plumage in order to attract a mate.
It might rain a little, and newly-filled drinking pools might mean the wildlife is a little more spread out, whilst the thicker bush might make them a little harder to spot - but this is a magical time of new life and growth in Africa that often produces interesting and unexpected sights and experiences.
